As managing partner of Sage Law Firm, Dean delivers comprehensive counsel with a focus on tax controversy, business consulting, and nonprofit matters. With his extensive experience, Dean offers clients tailored tax and business solutions to address their unique needs. Dean is dedicated to guiding clients throughout their business journey, from entity formation to dissolution, ensuring they are positioned for success at every stage.
Dean’s proficiency in resolving tax matters spans a broad spectrum as he has worked with both individuals and corporate clients. He routinely represents clients before the IRS and state taxation agencies and has counseled clients in sales tax matters nationwide.
Dean provides strategic counsel to business of all sizes, collaborating with clients to develop customized strategies for success. His meticulous contract drafting safeguards his clients’ interests and ensures favorable transactions. Whether negotiating profit-sharing arrangements, refining licensing agreements, or revising purchase and sale contracts, Dean leverages his contractual experience to deliver creative solutions to complex business challenges.
Passionate about charitable entities and their missions, Dean has assisted dozens of nonprofit founders through entity formation, structural organization, and the drafting of internal policies. He helps clients navigate the complex exempt application process and provides comprehensive compliance guidance to maintain in good standing. When compliance issues arise, Dean has successfully advocated for the retroactive reinstatement of his clients’ exempt status.
Dean graduated with honors from UCLA, studying Communications and English Literature. Furthering his education, he earned a Master of Entrepreneurship degree, with honorable distinction, from the University of Otago in Dunedin, New Zealand. Dean braved the midwestern winters to complete his J.D. at the University of Michigan Law School, and later returned to his native San Diego to pursue an LL.M. in Taxation from the University of San Diego School of Law.
When he’s not in the office, Dean enjoys escaping to the mountains with his husband, taking their dogs to the beach, reading, and hosting gatherings for family and friends.
